Algorithm Developer in Computational Biology

Our software team builds a computational drug discovery platform for the microbiome. Our systems analyze microbial whole-genome sequencing data at an unprecedented scale. Our goal is to identify drug targets in the microbiome: microbial origins of disease that are potential targets for intervention.

Duties:

As an algorithm developer on our team you’ll develop novel algorithms and software systems that analyze metagenomic data both efficiently and accurately.

In addition, you’ll support the data science team in the analysis and interpretation of the results of your work.

The position requires a combination of scientific training with strong engineering skills.

It is a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of computational life science outside of academia.

  • Experience with machine learning or algorithm development.

Bioinformatics Team Leader

By joining this team, you will be part of the core business of BiomX: developing phage based therapies for chronic diseases caused by dysbiosis of the microbiome. The team is responsible for analysis and planning of Next-Generation Sequencing data (microbial and viral genomes, metagenomes and metatranscriptomes) and for expanding company analytical capabilities by upgrading, validating and implementing in-house and open source bioinformatics tools to enable novel discoveries.

Minimum requirements (Please apply only if you match all of the following):

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or Biology or MSc with industry experience
  • Working experience in programming and/or scripting (R, python, or equivalent languages).
  • Expertise in developing and using novel NGS analysis workflows with a strong emphasis on data processing, analysis and interpretation Great bioinformatics understanding in developing algorithms and using software tools to analyses NGS data including assembly, mapping, annotation, characterization and comparison between datasets
  • Able to standardize analyses and create analytical pipelines
  • Able to assess and integrate new technologies
  • Service oriented – able to provide accessible reports for various non-computational teams

Nice-to-have requirements (Please apply if you have at least one of the following):

  • Particular experience in analysis of bacterial and/or bacteriophage sequences
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience or extensive academic experience
  • Experience with or knowledge of all aspects (including QC) of NGS library preparation.
  • Experience with protein and gene function analyses
  • Leadership experience

Project Leader CMC

Duties:

  • Build CMC program for specific project, taking into consideration route of administration for final product form.
  • Identification of potential CMOs for DS and DP manufacture; negotiation of contract and timelines; close follow up and overview of ongoing activities.
  • Definition of work plan with CMO, review of results and documentation.
  • Overview methods for product characterization, release and stability
  • Responsible for ensuring standard of manufacture suitable for clinical trials
  • Develop operational work plans to interface with projects’ milestones and timelines
  • Overview of in-house activities that support or complement CMOs
  • Identification and management of regulatory consultants for CMC
  • Preparation of CMC section for regulatory submissions

Minimum requirements (please apply only if you have all the following):

  • PhD degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in managing CMOs to ensure optimal project progress
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements for different aspects of drug manufacturing, release criteria and stability requirements in line with ICH and FDA guidelines
  • Experienced in manufacturing of biologicals
  • Experience with oral formulations is an advantage.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands

Assay development manager

BiomX is a young and dynamic biotech company developing innovative products in the field of microbiome.
We are looking for an experienced Assays Development Manager willing to work in a dynamic and changing environment, transitioning from basic research to clinical stages.

Duties:

  • Lead assay development, optimization, validation and technology transfer. Methods include microbial, molecular, cellular, biochemical assays and instrumental analysis (HPLC).
  • Develop and implement methods for product characterization, release and stability.
  • Develop work plans to interface with projects milestones and timelines
  • Implement methodic recording and reporting of results
  • Establish SOPs for routine work
  • Establish and maintain bacterial and phage banks with adequate characterization and recording.
  • Train staff to work at industrial standard to support developmental stages for preclinical and clinical studies.

Minimum requirements (please apply only if you have all the following):

  • D. in Life Sciences, Biotechnology engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the appropriate assay systems and current technology platforms used to perform microbial, biochemical, cellular and molecular testing.
  • Previous experience in upstream and downstream production process development is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements for assay development, release criteria and stability programs.
  • Previous experience in a GxP environment

Functional assay researcher

We are looking for an experienced functional assay researcher willing to work in a dynamic and changing environment, transitioning from basic research to clinical stages. The main responsibility of the candidate will be to conduct and support functional assays (as in vitro and ex vivo systems) mainly aimed to discover and validate novel harmful bacterial targets related to disease. Nonetheless, the candidate will assist in the establishment and maintenance of the biological systems involved in the functional assays.

Duties:

  • Carry out functional assays screens including in vitro systems (e.g. cell lines, primary cells and organoids) and ex vivo systems (e.g. gastrointestinal derived tissues).
  • Assist in assay design, development and optimization.
  • Routinely cell lines establishment and maintenance of cell line banks.
  • Implement methodic recording, writing protocols, SOPs and summarizing data.
  • Methods include microbial, immunological, molecular, cellular and biochemical assays.

Minimum requirements:

  • MSc degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology engineering or equivalent with minimum experience of 2 years.
  • Cell Culture: experience working with cell lines and with primary cells (isolation, purification and labeling of different tissue cells)
  • In vivo/ex vivo: experience working with animal models including procedures as surgery and necropsy (major advantage)
  • Able to precisely execute multi-step protocols and adjust them.
  • Fast learner and independent thinker, able to perform at the highest standards both individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent English

Advantage:

  • Experience in microbiology methods (CFU, PFU, etc)
  • Prior experience working with permeability and immunological assays
  • Prior experience in Flow cytometry, Immuno-histochemical, cell viability assays and ELISA

Microbiologist

BiomX is a leading Israeli biotech company developing microbiome-based novel therapeutics.

We are looking for a highly-motivated M.Sc.-level research assistant to join our Microbiology team. The team utilizes a variety of classical Microbiology methods combined with molecular biology aspects.

By joining this team, you will be part of novel research in the microbiome field and the development of phage therapies.

Duties:

  • Planning and performing experiments using variety of microbiology techniques
  • Working with a variety of microorganisms: bacteria and phages
  • Isolating and maintaining cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms for future study
  • Identifying and classifying microorganisms found in specimens collected from humans, water, and other sources
  • Working with physiological samples: stool, saliva and biopsies
  • Recording, analyzing and interpreting data
  • Protocol and SOP preparation
  • Keeping up with current knowledge by reviewing the findings
  • Working in a team of four scientists

  • Sc in Life Sciences, Biotechnology engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience

Research assistant in the Process Development and Manufacturing Lab

Duties:

  • Researcher in the Process Development & manufacturing lab executing GMP manufacturing of biological products.
  • Hands-on activities in manufacturing process including upstream and downstream activities.
  • Generate methods, protocols, SOPs & reports of a new lab at R&D and CMC level.
  • Coordinate project related activities with different units within the company and with subcontractor.

  • BSc/ MSc in Life Sciences, Biotechnology or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience in a similar position.
  • Strong scientific background in manufacturing of biological products
